The Rock Upon Which the Light Walks
As part of SeaPort Art Center’s programming, we host intimate, thoughtfully curated meals that bring together professionals in the arts to reflect, connect, and exchange ideas.
These gatherings explore the relationship between dialogue, taste, and place, with menus inspired by Mediterranean cuisine and prepared with wild herbs foraged from the slopes of Mount Lycabettus in Athens. Each ingredient reflects the mountain’s landscape, light, and history.
Focusing on local and seasonal ingredients, the meals highlight the culinary traditions of Athens and the wider Mediterranean, while also drawing from the Palestinian and North African heritage of the host, artist Dor Guez Munayer, presented through a contemporary interpretation. Hospitality, a central aspect of Guez’s artistic practice, shapes these encounters as spaces of generosity, exchange, and reflection.
The title The Rock Upon Which the Light Walks refers poetically to Lycabettus Hill, evoking the layers of nature, memory, and cultural heritage that shape both Athens and our artistic imagination. These meals offer guests the opportunity to experience the flavors of the Mediterranean while engaging in meaningful conversation and exchange.
